The woods and gardens are open. You are most welcome to enjoy and explore the woods and gardens on your own; literature about the woods is available in the post box along the path near the George Washington statue and in the Bishop's Garden, the post box is centrally located. If you wish to read about a winter walk in our Herald Newsletter on Page 4, and view the listing of trees along the way, click here>> and we hope you will visit the Woods.
Two guided Birdwalks have been scheduled for May: May 2nd and May 9th at 8:30 am. Leader: Sheila Cochran. Some resident birds you might see are: cardinals, blue jays, goldfinches and robins and over the years migrants such as hawks, owls, thrushes and various warblers have been seen. No reservations necessary except for groups. Walks meet at the George Washington Statue on Pilgrim Road.

For the guided tours: Participants meet at the Garfield Street entrance at Pilgrim Road and Garfield (Garfield & 35th Sts.), on the south side of the Cathedral. (Birdwalks meet at the George Washington Statue on Pilgrim Road). There is street parking, but parking on Cathedral roads requires a hang tag. Visitor parking is available in the Cathedral garage accessible off Wisconsin Avenue and Woodley Road and 36th Street . No reservations are required and all programs are free. Programs will be canceled in the event of heavy rain. Woodlands Information Line: (202) 537-2319. Please wear sturdy waterproof shoes.
