Jane Battle

Jane Hills Hodgins Battle, passed away in January 2023. Jane was born in the city of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. She attended York House School and the University of British Columbia. After her marriage to Charles Tucker Battle, they moved to Washington, DC, where she spent the majority of her life. 

Jane was an active member of the All Hallows Guild Governing Board for 25 years (1991 to 2016). During her time on the Board, Jane served on the communications committee, Flower Mart advisory committee, finance committee, and garden committee. As a member of the Herb Cottage committee she oversaw a major renovation of the Herb Cottage in 2003. From 1997 to 2007 Jane served as the All Hallows Guild Treasurer. In 2002 Jane co-chaired Flower Mart – when the theme was “Celebrating Australia”.

Jane celebrated life with great joy and will always be remembered by her family and friends for her immeasurably kind and loving spirit, and her positive and upbeat attitude.

Cathie Jones

Catherine Lyla Coates Jones, 91, passed away at her home on December 22, 2022, in Bethesda, MD. A proud native Washingtonian, Cathie attended Western High School and George Washington University. 

Cathie was a member of the All Hallows Guild Governing Board for over two decades and a member (along with her daughter) of the dedicated puppeteers who created and performed an original puppet show each spring during Flower Mart.

Cathie was an active All Hallows Guild volunteer – serving as a member of the All Hallows Guild Garden Committee, tea supervisor, and Herb Cottage volunteer.

Janice Molchan

Janice worked at the Herb Cottage for several years before becoming the assistant manager in January 1987.  When manager Anne Haines retired in fiscal 1988-89, Janice became the manager of the Herb Cottage in 1989, serving in that capacity until fiscal 1998.  She also worked in Visitors’ Services department of the National Cathedral.

WHO WE ARE

All Hallows Guild was founded in 1916 to provide for the care and beautification of the grounds of Washington National Cathedral. The Guild works closely with the horticultural staff to preserve this historic landscape and raises funds for renovation and renewal of the gardens.
